The M40 is a weaker sniper rifle compared to the AWM. It can kill an enemy with a single headshot or two body shots. The gun is recommended for skilled players that can land a headshot.
It also has a high accuracy without aiming and while jumping which makes it worth to noscope or jumpshot.
AWM

The AWM is a long range sniper and is the 2nd most powerful weapon in the game. It can kill enemies in one shot, unless you hit their legs or feet.
M110

When the M110 was added to the game, it wasn't very viable due to it's high recoil and low mobility, but with the update 0.13.0, it came to be a very powerful weapon thanks to it's lowered recoil, taking one headshot or two bodyshots to kill an enemy.
It's price makes it a weapon for the ending of a game, also, it has a really different spray pattern, where the first shots the weapon has no recoil but if you hold the trigger the recoil and imprecision will increase over time.
